Aquaculture Cages

I’m in the process of constructing a business proposal for improvements in Aquaculture cages design.

I invite those who are in the industry to please provide inputs on the following

  1. Existing manufacturers/suppliers
  2. Cost of cages and setup costs
  3. Problems/challenges faced by users of current designs

Open Innovation in New Brunswick, Canada

Here is an example of open innovation in aquaculture in Canada. In this case, the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation has sought to gain expertise in the area by purchasing $250,000 worth of equity in Open Ocean Systems Inc, an open ocean aquaculture start-up. This is another example of a company seeking innovation using the open innovation model as opposed to the closed innovation model. In fact, the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation bases its business model on the Open Innovation model by “making targeted, leveraged investments in research and development and early stage innovative companies in New Brunswick”. Aquaculture open innovation

Congratulations to Cleanseas Tuna Ltd and Japan’s Kinki University for agreeing to exchange technologies and techniques in the area of Bluefin Tuna propagation. A great illustration of open innovation.

This may be a significant step in commercialising the closure of the Tuna lifecycle which will potentially reduce the depletion of wild Tuna stocks.
