Brand Canada Aquaculture
September 16th, 2008 by Andrew
The Brand Canada initiative seeks to establish a clean, greeen and resposible marketing position for Canadian aquaculture product.
Brand Canada anticipates a number of roles in developing global market confidence in Canadian aquaculture via:
Symbol of Quality and Safety Assurance
Symbol of Product Traceability
Symbol of Environmentally Responsible Farming
On-Farm Food Safety Program
National Traceability Program
Canadian Code System for Sustainable Aquaculture
Audit
Third Party Audits

The Canadian is more organised than us in Australia, in particular their national aquaculture governance and regulatory framework (both federal and provincial governments) which is striving to balance the need to protect the environment, sustain fisheries, and enable a competitive industry to flourish. The integrity of the regulatory framework will also provide confidence to consumers. Please visit the following link.

Canada also has their own equivalent to Finfish! Well, almost.
Aquanet is a network of universities, government and industry organisations which was established in 1999 with a mission to foster a sustainable aquaculture sector in Canada through high quality research and education.
One of their key objectives is to ensure the integration of aquaculture with other industries, such as tourism and oil and gas. Given the extent of oil and gas infrastructure off parts of the WA coast, this research could be very relevant. However, unfortunately there is nothing relevant to this objective listed under their research findings.
Their findings so far cover environmental and welfare issues.

[...] I guess this is a spinoff of Andrew’s post in relation to Brand Canda. [...]
Does anybody know how successful (or otherwise) the Brand Canada initiative has been?
